Re: octane booster

Octane is the resistance to detonation under compression. Since most outboards are not high compression engines, additional octane will be wasted. So octane booster would be a waste of your money.

Double Ditto....waste of money, and actually less performance....

Re: octane booster

Triple, no...

Quadruple, no...

How many dittos are we up to?

Many people think octane equals power. Nothing could be further from the truth. As pointed out, octane is just resistance to detonation, it won't give you more power. In fact, there are many additives that will increase octane and DECREASE performance, increase engine deposits, and eventually cause problems after prolonged use.

Unless you are running high compression, you do not need higher octane. And if you ARE running high octane, get a high-octane race fuel from the start instead of trying to "add" octane after the fact.

Re: octane booster

I doubt it would a thing for ya (good or bad).

Most octance boosters scam us by saying they raise octane by 5 or what ever points. But a point is actually .1 of what we see at the pump.

Yes, most outboards don't need it, but for the few that do (like V6's with cut heads or merc inline 6's) then I've heard good things about one called Coxoc. However, it will always be cheaper to get good gas at the pump if available.
