Ocean City MD or Virginia Beach for Tuna?

I was talking to my dad today and we decided that we want to charter a boat this year and go after some big fish - probably tuna. We want to go somewhere we can drive to and Ocean City, MD and Virginia Beach are probably our best closest choices for a 3 day weekend.<br /><br />My dad is more interested in getting to the fish faster - I'm more interested in going out further in the water if we can get better fish there.<br /><br />I know a lot of it has to do with the captain of the boat putting us on the fish, but does anyone have any suggestions on which location offers better fish? Can anyone reccomend a charter?<br /><br />Thanks!

be along time ago for virginia beach but i'm always in O C MD..<br /><br />O C is the closest to the canyons of all eastern seaboard destinations..<br /><br />plus has a MAJOR charter fleet.. <br /><br />goggle it up.. bet it's lots..!!

Thanks Crab Bait. <br /><br />When you say "canyons", I guess you're talking about underwater canyons. Is that where you find tuna?<br /><br />Sorry .. I don't know much about deep sea fishing but I'll find fish in any river or lake.

Not absolutely sure but I believe when we were in OBX NC late April they were getting some nice tuna and it's an overnight drive from upstate ny. May be a little too far

yes,, it's a mile or more deep an it's in the gulf stream.. it's where the the big-boys go..

Thanks for the tips, fellas.<br /><br />Crab, I see you're in DE - what part? My sister is in Newark and I'm headed up there this weekend.<br />I cought some great flounder last year at the OC Fishing Center off of the Baybee. Do you ever get out that way?

OC is great if you want to wait until June or July and like a 40 mile boat ride to get there. April and May are the hot months for Tuna out of Hatteras or OI and it just a short run to the fishing grounds.
