OB electrical question???

I have an old 4 stroke 10hp Honda with no spark. I disconnected the plug wires and all other wires on the coil. With the coil mounted to the block and nothing connected to it I still get continuity from ground to the coil post. Does this mean that there is a short in the coil?

Re: OB electrical question???

Maybe,.... Maybe not.
You mentioned continuity. As this secondary of this transformer has one of the two leads tied to ground, it is expected that you would have continuity BUT,..... depending on the length of wire/number of turns in the secondary winding, your RESISTANCE should measure a few ohms.

Sorry, this is probably not too much help. I don't know your motor. Does it have only one coil? If it has 2, measure resistance between post & gnd on both.

Do you have a service manual? This would likely give detail on nominal reistance measurement for the coil.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN

Always check your stop switch(s)first - most common cause of no-spark. Disconect and then check for spark.

It only has one coil with both plug wires coming out of it.

I disconnected the kill switch also so that's not it.

I do have a manual and I'll check to see if they give a resistance reading for the coil.

Thanks
