I need help with a problem on my 1988 Bayliner Capri fitted with 3.0 o.m.c cobra.Starts and idels well all the time,problem starts when engine gets warm, about 30 mins use, when it starts to miss from idel and holds back,it will sometimes correct its self and then run o.k for a while,the carb has had a full overhaul and no faults found,fuel pump seems o.k. New points,condenser,H.T leads maded no differents. <br />Any info would be a great.

Does it run fine until you shift into either neutral or reverse and then back for forward? If so and then if it will only run at about 500rpm, then you (probably) have the same problem that I just developed -- A ESAM (electronic shift assist module)problem. The system is designed to kill(severely limit) power from engine during shifting to keep from stripping the gears. There are two limit switches that come into play.

Could be a partially blocked fuel tank vent and after running for a while you are developing a vacumm in the tank or it could be a faulty coil that starts to break down after it gets hot, next time when it happens carefully touch the coil (don't burn yourself) to see how hot it is. Fuel pump pressure could be on the low side but you need a pressure guage to tell for sure.
