Hi, I use a crusifix type trailer carrying a 15'6 boat, weight approx 600lbs all up, the existing keel rollers are traditional rubber, the boat settles on these creating a flat spot and needs an initial bit of oomph to start getting it off. I am considering fitting nylon rollers to overcome this, but before going down this route, has anyone experience why this maybe not a good idea? ie, poss damage to wooden keel etc: Regards, Al.

The nylon rollers by Stoltz are very high quality.

Before you make the change, you may want to lessen some of the load on the keel by adjusting the outboard bunks/rollers upward slightly.

Agree with DJ - the polyurethane rollers by Stoltz are good stuff. They don't flat spot and roll much more easily (grease the shafts). For more info see:

Stoltz Rollers

You don't want to put too much load on the keel of the boat if you can help it. That is exactly what DJ is talking about. If there is too much load on the keel, the intregrity of the boat will decrease as years goes by because there is no support on other parts of the boat. Not very good for the boat.

Re: nylon keel rollers

thanks beezee, point noted, although it has been sitting on its keel for 25 years, on rubber rollers. Hence the query about going for harder rollers, maybe extra rollers mabye a good idea. Regards, Al.
