Don't think there is a group per se. Just post your question for the area you are interested in and if anyone has experience they will respond.

Not far northwest but try finding somebody who likes to and does fish Montana. Not for trout and fly fishing but for bass and pike. I'm not against trout or fly fishing at all. I just love to fish! Not a lot record fish around except for lake trout. My goal is a five pound Montana bass this summer. That's huge for here! Good luck with your search. Chad

When I think of Montana, I imagines mountains, wide open desolated plains, and little shallow rivers. I had no ideas there are bass fishing existed. Do you fish in river or reservoir? is it even a popular game fish there?

Re: NW and Alaska Fishermen--where?

I fish small lakes and there are a lot of them bunched up. I'm sure they were all one lake at one time. Most of them are dried up. I live in western Montana which is all mountains but there are reservoirs in the east that have the best bass fishing. We catch a 3 or 4 pound bass and get really excited. My goal is 5 pounds or bigger and put it on the wall. Most fishing people do around here is in the rivers for cutthroat trout with a fly rod. Allot of that is also the tourists who come here to do that. Thats fine since most of our money comes from out of state. Most people who have lived here for most of their lives and fish have pursued bass and there are plenty to be caught. A lot of old timers fish for perch. There is even a warm water hatchery by Fort Peck reservoir in eastern Montana that we help pay for with our licenses. I know of only one of our lakes where I live that is planted regularly with bass from there. They even planted tiger muskie in one lake. Northern pike are fished for more than bass and they are starting to take a lot of lakes over. I love to fish for pike but find bass to be much more of a challenge. Thanks for your interest and sorry if I changed the thread from what it was intended.

Montana especially the western parts is certainly considered the NW so you posted in the right thread :) I fish the Snake and Columbia mostly for bass, salmon, sturgion and steelies but this year I'll also rig for walleye since we enjoy eating them so much.

Sturgion fishing must be awsome! Do you hook a few a day or is it you might catch one? Walleye fishing would be great but there isn't much of that where I live. I think I could travel a hundred miles or so and fish but I don't think the walleye fishing is as good as other places. This thread is pretty cool and I'd like to keep talking, just don't get to the computer much. Need to go fishing! And fix boat motors! And work! To pay for fishing! To buy boats! And rods and reels and tackle! It never ends. If I kept going I'd have a giant circle. Good luck everyone! Chad

Chiming in as a NW fisherman. Came off of lake Sammamish this morning. Fishing was pretty good. Lots of Chinook in the lake, all running between 10 ft at first light down to 35 ft after sunrise.

There's no nookie like CHInookie.

Ice is almost good enough to get out on. I actually saw some people ice skating on a lake this weekend. It's the first lake to freeze around here, but its a good sign! Maybe try to get out and try for some pike or perch on my favorite lakes next weekend. It might be a little early still. I'm sure I can get on a good lake for rainbow. The ice is thin but it can be fished. We just need to be prepared for emergencies. Safety first right! Good luck! Chad

Try the Pot-holes out of Othello Wa. Just about everything you will ever want to catch.
