i have an 8 HP NS8B with no spark. ive tested the exciter coil, the CDI, and kill switch. i get readings from all of them but have no refrence material for the numbers im looking for. i have both an owners manual and a service manual but can not find the resistance values anywhere. the motor has only been run in salt water a couple of times and ALWAYS flushed for sever minutes with fresh flowing water imedatly following salt water use. the motor was running fine (in a fresh water lake) while on the water and then as if i pressed the kill switch it quit. i had great water flow from the motor, and have preformed diligent maintance sinch the assumption of ownership from a family member. what are my options and is the motor worth putting more money into it. i know a new CD unit will run $200+, and its an obsolete part so now what. please help guys, i just want to continue fishing with my little girl.
thanks

What service manual are you using? The Factory service manual, 003-21035-1, $45.00, available from any dealer, including me, has full resistance values in it. Diagnose the issue before condemning the motor. You must test with a good analog (not digital) ohm meter. If you end up needing parts, you can order 3B2061200M EXCITER COIL $54.74, or 3B2061700M C.D. IGNITION UNIT (F8T11073/7Y27) $273.19. They are both available, so whoever suggested that the parts are NLA just doesn't know. While the small 2-strokes are obsolete in North America (thanks to our governmental emissions regulations), they are still being built for other markets, so parts will be available for a while yet.

You haven't tested the CD or the exciter coil since you did not have a service manual to run the tests and get the values. The test values are rather involved so, get the service manual and start from the beginning.
