Got the thing rebuild, everything works. Only problem now is that the engine starts in gear. I assume the rod that connects into the lower unit is not placed correctly, because when I shift gears (F-N-R) it clicks through all three of them. However, when it is in the N position- it starts but the prop is actually in gear.

Is my assumption right? I f so I need to drop L/U again and figure it out. How does it go in correctly?

Re: NS5B gear shifting.

Open the grommet in the exhaust housing. Shift to R. Release the shift coupler bolt 1/2 turn. Use a screwdriver to push the cam rod into R. Verify that the shifter is in R. Tighten the bolt. Test.
