I just soaked and blew out my carb and was wondering if I should do anything with the fuel pump? Also....does anyone know of a source for the low profile fuel filters used on these small engines?

The fuel pump is integral with the carb on the 5B, so servicing one is by default servicing both. Did you inspect the diaphragms and the check valves in the pump?

If you have the integral plastic fuel tank, the filter screen is integral with the fuel ****, so you would order 369703110M FUEL **** (PLASTIC TANK), $27.49, from any dealer, including me. OTOH, if you have the ancient metal internal tank, you are out of luck, and will need to fabricate something locally, or switch to the plastic tank. If you are running the external tank, you would use the regular in-line filter: 369022300M, FUEL FILTER, $11.62.

Re: NS5B Carb cleaned.....fuel pump service too?

Paul,
Thanks for the reply. Yes it is integral to the bowl....I did not carb dip the bowl because I did not know what the dip would do to the diaphrams inside the pump. I attempted to separate the fuel pump sections this morning and only the outermost would come off (I did not apply much force.....not familiar with these). Inside of the outer cover it was very clean with no varnish present, so I went no further. I am thinking of placing the carb back on and hoping for the best. The carb itself is clean....no integral tank.....replaced the fuel filter. I bottomed the idle screw and backed it off 1.5 turns. I did not see a setting in the service manual for this, but I could have missed this. I will read the manual again at my shop tonight. I have to check the water pump and then I will try to fire her up. She used to be a very reliable motor once upon a time. If she runs I will apply more lipstick!

Sounds OK.

No, you don't want carb dip going after any rubber bits, and that includes the pump parts. The Factory service manual shows how to service the pump. If needed, the pump parts are available. The pilot screw initial setting is usually about 1-3/4 or 2 turns out, and then you will need to final-adjust it after warm-up, in gear, on the boat, in the water.
