I am putting the water pump back together and in the OEM service manual it shows a spacer/washer between the two back-to-back oils seals.
I ordered the parts from the parts manual (last fall) ....and did order the shim, but am not sure why now.
1) The question is that on disassembly, there was no shim installed in that location...straight from the factory. I am the original owner.
What is the purpose of that shim. and was it added as an afterthought?
2) The manual indicates a couple of different sealers and lubes for this application....including an anaerobic sealer.
I was just going to use what I had on hand, but on second thought decided to get the correct Loctite product and other lube.
When I removed the two oil seals, they had been installed with generous coat of some grease. This is not mentioned in the manual.
Should this be a silicone based grease or can I just use regular grease or gear oil?
