Doing the lower unit seals and water pump on my motor.
Following all the steps in the manual up to where it says to "Remove the stopper and lift cam rod from gearcase".
Removed the stopper bolt and washer but nothing's happening.
What am I missing. I've been yanking and spraying and yanking on this thing for the better part of an hour.
I don't want to go animal as I know only bad things can happen.
Any suggestions????
thanks
rob

Used the search feature but only reviewed the 1st page before posting.
Posted, then went to 2nd page and found a post from Guru to Sea Rider.

Pressure...Put a pair of vice grips on the shaft and then pop it up with a hammer if you need to. Normally its not tight.

Worked like a charm.
Now if I can get the internal O-ring in the bushing, I'll be home.
Thanks Guru

Rob,

We sometimes use a stainless dental pick to pull the old inside o-ring. That's actually the easy part. BTW, Be careful not to damage the bushing. The new o-ring will want to collapse as you insert it. That's where a punch of the correct size can be used to help manipulate the new ring into place. Again, don't cut the new ring or damage the bushing.

You are learning why OB mechanics charge what they do... :)

Paul,
A person skilled in their profession is always worth the price.
I got the O-ring in the bushing using the plastic tip of a cheap ball point pen.
I do IT work (data, voice & wireless networks). This is a nice change for me.
I really enjoy working on and learning about these old 2 strokes. It's like relaxation therapy.
Not to be confused with Walleye Therapy, but fun nonetheless.

As an EE and former Network Manager, I understand completely :)
I like the ballpoint pen approach :)

Paul,
With all due respect to your previous vocation, as far as your new profession, you've chosen well.
