Now what happened?? Forward gear only!

Hello to All of you,<br />Well, to those of you who have kept up with my efforts, I have the lower unit back on. The fuel filter is rebuilt and on. I put the muffs on - fire up - and///// have only forward gear. I have a fantastic flow at the "tell-tale" What happened??? Could something have let loose in the gear housing during my efforts to drop the lower unit? She' runnin great and pumpin water like crazy, but is locked in forward gear. The tilt lock is operating properly. Locked during a gear shift to Neutral and Reverse. Unlocks during gear shift to forward. I am lost on this one. Anybody, please forgive me for posting another problem, but I need you professional help again. Thank goodness for this Site!!!!! Thanx. DMZ...

sounds to me like you have the shifter spline out of synch.(the splined shaft at front of leg) Pull the leg off, rotate the shifter shaft till gears are in neutral (you'll know this when the prop shaft turns easy) Then position control to neutral. Now carefully reinstall leg.<br /><br /><br />Good luck!

Schematic,<br />Thanx for staying with me.... I had a bad feeling before i put the L/U back on because I could not find a position where there was a Neutral. It took me several hours of hit and miss trials to find the proper position for the anti-reverse cam so the tilt lock would opperate correctly. The prop would only turn forward - That's why I'm wondering if something may have stuck in the gear housing during my efforts to drop the unit. Thanx again. Dmz.

while rotating the driveshaft in CW rotation by hand, (do not rotate in CCW rotation!!)twist the shifter shaft till you find neutral. The trick is to rotate input shaft while doing so, or she may not shift in.....
