Today just one day after Nancy Pelosi visited Syria, republican California congressman Darrel Issa had talks with terrorism supporting Syrian president Assad in Damascus. That would be the fourth republican visiting Syria in a week. Is Bush loosing his grip on the party? Is foreign secretary Rice making decisions by herself? What does Rush have to say about this?
Are we laying the groundwork for a face saving exit from Iraq?
Help me here, things seem to get really murky

I think you have nailed it. Congress is more interested in getting re-elected, consolidating power, usurping laws, than doing the countries work.

Re: Now it is Darrel Issa.

Politicians only have 2 goals.
Goal 1 get elected
Goal 2 get re-elected
EVERYTNING they do prior to getting elected is geared towards goal 1.
EVERYTHING post election is for the on going quest of goal 2.

It's that simple.

When you consider that not a single Democrat lost their seat due to opposition of the Iraq war, and the war getting less popular by the day, I think you can think about using the past tense about Bush and the party.

He no longer is losing the party, he has lost the party.

I'm confused also after reading your post. Did Nancy just visit or did she also have TALKS WITH TERRORISM SUPPORTTING SIRIAN PRESIDENT? (I see you study drive-by media headline technics)

I dont blame you for wanting to change the subject. I mean, even hollywood libs are are now on record condeming your girl nancy.

Rush condems her visit and statements as well as the VP who was a special guest today..

yeah,....I'd say nancy is the story today, and nancy is the one losing grippage 8)....lol....nice try fellas.

If I wanted to change the subject I would not have mentioned the lady's name and I would not have tried anything having to do with Syria.
Is our vice president desperate enough to participate in a talk show????If this is where the halls of power have moved for this administration, they are in dire straits indeed.

She said after her meeting with President Assad that “we came in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to Damascus is a road to peace”.

Can someone explain to me why we shouldn't have Pelosi & Co. arrested as soon as they arrive back in the US?
The Logan Act prohibits this type of 'freelance' diplomacy. Have the Federal Marshals slap the cuffs on them and perp walk them right to jail.

Logan Act
§ 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

"without authority of the United States"

Sounds vague to me. What exactly does that mean?

I think the republicans are undermining all our soldiers efforts in Iraq. Why can't they simply support them? Boom is helping to align the toilets as we speak.

Name dropping, I like it. How does it work for you Boom?

bekosh, my guess, because it's a 4:1 ratio.

I asked a similar question back in the other Pelosi thread & got a lot of crickets chirping. Just can't find out who OK'd any of this congressional meddling.

Try doing a Google search on Denny Hastert 1997 columbia meeting

Then post back your findings.

If you get your undies in a bunch when the Speaker of the House visits foreign countries and meets with the government, against the wishes of the sitting president, you must have been pretty upset in 1997.

Hastert is on record as having told the Columbian Government, during his meeting, to bypass the Executive branch and deal directly with Congress via Hastert and his staff.
These activities were far beyond anything Pelosi has done.

Since Hastert is a righty, there was no undermining of the Executive Branch, etc, so on and so forth, as Pelosi is accused of, eh?

The foul stench of right wing hypocrisy is overpowering. Do you smell it now?

By the way, has anyone seen the photos of Condi and Laura in head scarves when visiting mosques in the Middle East? How about the photos of the female republicans that were on the trip with Pelosi? The ones that show the republicans in head scarves at the same time and place as Pelosi? No, you people wouldn't have seen the photos. You wouldn't dare look at anything that resembles factual reporting. Faux News is the way to go...

I think you mis-understood my question. I'm not asking specifically Pelosi and her visit. The Logan Act mentions "...without authority of the United States" and I don't understand what that authority represents.

No stench from me. I'm with LD. Dem or Rep, doesn't matter. The Constitution empowers only the President to direct foriegn policy, no one else.

As far as the scarf, who gives a rip.

Here we go with so and so did so it's ok. This time it's coming from the dems. It's wrong. I don't care who did it. She's in the business of lawmaking (like it or not), not foreign affairs.

And now what's this I hear she's making commitments on behalf of Israel that were never approved? Could be spin, I heard it on Limbaugh today. Haven't had time to look into it yet. Anyone know what that's about?

386, you heard it where?

Pointer,

Today it's the fault of politics while yesterday it was the fault of dems? Do I have that correct or should I go back and look?

386, I hear what you are saying, but sometimes you just have to even the playing field of rhetoric. Amazing how one side feels they have done no wrong.
