As some of you may know, I've been disassembling my two Alpha 1 Gen 2 drives with the intent of cleaning them up and repainting them this winter, Got everything apart, only problem left is the brass nut that is seated in the bell housing for the shift cable. I cut the cable down enough to fit a deep well 9/16 3/8 drive socket and somehow I've rounded the head. What can I do now to get it out? I am assuming it has to come out for a new cable?

You will have to drill that one out being careful not to damage the threads.
Might want to use a chisel to make the cable insert flush with the brass fitting so you can get the drill bit centered.

I'd try and drill most of it out and use something like an awl to pry the brass threads away from the housing.

If you were using a 12 point socket when it rounded, you might have one last shot at it with a 6 point socket. I used a 9/16? spark plug socket.

With the amount of corrosion we have seen and the electrolsys we have seen , then NO
Get the correct drill bit and tap or mail it to me for repair.and from the looks of it you also need a new arm.

Ayuh,..... Seein's it's junk anyways, I'd cut the cable apart ahead of the bellhousin', clean out the inner cable, then beat an easy-out into the fittin', 'n see if I could turn it out,...

Odds are against a perfectly done drill out, without trashin' the threads in the bellhousin',...

Once I had the cable outa the way, I'd probably start with some heat, a quench, 'n pen-oil,...
