It's a 66 Starcraft Starchief. Title just says 68 Starcraft. So the year is wrong and does not include the model but now that I know, I can get started trying to get her up and running like she should Starting with new cables, I called my local boat shops and they were no help. Any suggestions where to get new contrOl cables? Thanks Greg

As was mentioned in your other Topic, boats & motors aren't like cars & motors. Starcraft didn't build the motor. On the Mercruiser motor, there should be model & serial # that can be used to determine if its a 1966 Mercruiser or a transplant.

You'll need a length for the cables, and the correct cable ends to fit your motor & control box.

Nice 1966 Starchief ;)

Welcome to iboats and the SC tin division :welcome:

I have a soft spot for the Chiefs, very nice Chief and it's a Merc I/O as well :thumb:

So what are your plans for this fine hunk of tin?

Plans for her are for this summer - get her running as well as I can and enjoy her in the water as much as possible. In the meantime, look at as many of the cool builds here and figure out what I really want. Research what I have, check out the motor and outdrive etc and perhaps play with some things to see what helps her perform better but ultimately - I do not want to change a lot.

This boat has been in my family for decades, and was a family friends since it was new. The last thing I want to do is try to turn it into a new wake board boat. I want to use her to fish, cruise, pull the kids around on a tube frm time to time

Perhaps next winter I will replace the floor - there are a few soft spots but then again, I could lose a few pounds and probably would not notice nearly as much. I will be re-wireing everything (ugh I really do not like wiring at all) but at least there is not much here to deal with. She needs a new fuse box at least because I have not seen theese type of fuses in 20 years or more... Then I will start checking the engine out. Start with a complete clean and tune (plugs, points, wires, cap, timing.... you know the drill), clean and perhaps rebuild the carb. Might need to re-jet too but that will depend on how she runs this summer. We are based in Denver CO and will typically be running her here or in the mountains to the west. I will check the condition of the internals a bit - mostly I will check compresion and see where she is at. If she is worn - I will look into my options. Perhaps a more modern drive train, or I might find a donor and see if I can rebuild that engine over the winter.... We shall see.

Right now - she does not leak a drop. I like the color and lay out so - not a lot right away. New cables for now. My sons and wife want a stereo so I might go there.

More pictures...

What does this lever do? As far as I can tell.... nothing at all
