Hello all,
Just found this site and have enjoyed reading all of the posts. I boat a used fishing boat on a whim and have no maintenance exp. with it. The boat has an outboard 90hp johnson motor (1988). The boat is in my garage and I need to know what I have to do to protect it for the winter. I have read many post and I feel like an idiot!!! How, where do I drain the oil in the lower gear case? Also, can the "fogging" be done by yourself or do I have to have special equipment? Finally, I have read that I am supposed to disconnect the fuel line and let the motor run out? Please advise as it is not possible for me to take this boat somewhere to have it winterized. Thanks for all/any help, it is very much appreciated!
Jim

Re: novice needs help winterizing

buy some fogging oil, and some stabilizer for the gas.
Put the stabilizer in the gas, run motor for about 5-10 min, remove fuel line, keeping running until it chokes. next take out spark plugs, spray fogging oil in each cylinder, crank engine a bit to get fogging oil around. put plugs back in.

change lower oil, two screws(slotted)right by the water intake.
take battery inside, charge every couple of months

all should take about 20 min, easy.
