I just got a 16'Avon Inflatable from someone who had a long shaft 25 on. I'll be using a short shaft 30 hp Suzuki and know the transom needs to be nothced. Does anyone know how to measure for this? Distance from top of prop to bottom of boat? Distance of water intakes below keel? Thank You.

Howdy,. Daninak.

A short shaft is 15". You can't take 10" out of your transom without endangering it's integrity.

If the transom is really 25" get an Extra long shaft (25") engine or add a jack plate for the short shaft engine.

Shaft length is from the inside edge of the transom mount to the anti ventilation plate on the engine. On the boat it is from the top of the transom to the bottom of the boat.

Good luck. :)

I don't think you understood my question. Maybe I didn't word it clearly. Never mind the long or short shafts for now. What I need to know is how far below the botom of the boat should the prop be? If I know that I can figure out the rest. Dan

The cavitation plate should be about even with the bottom edge of the transom or somewhere there close...maybe up a bit if you have a deep vee hull...just a Thought
