not up to speed

i have a 15.5ft vip with a 65hp mercury motor 4 cyl. my friend has a 15.5 bass master with a 48hp johnson motor, both boat weigh about the same, but he is faster on the water than me, his is a 3 blade prop so is mine, whats my problem,

probably, hull design, trim, height of motor, pitch of prop, any or all the above, just to start

What is your speed? How high off the tramsom is your motor(measure from bottom of motor bracket to top of transom), or what is the distance (above or below) between the center of the prop shaft, and the bottom of the boats pad? 3-3.5 in. above is usually about max and best. What are your RPM at full thottle?(wot) Gimme some info and I will try to help.
