This is in regards to my previous post:

6.2L Mercruiser Engine Alarms

The first day I had this boat out I did let the temperature creep up to 212 and the alarm went off. This was in idle after running hard. The previous owner told me it would do this if I did not idle it around 1000 rpm for about 30 seconds after running hard. I quickly got it cooled back down and the alarm buzzer turned off.

QUESTION: Did (or does) this alarm need to be cleared out before being able to run properly again?

If anyone knows alot about these ECM's please let me know.

Thanks,
Jason

No they do not need to be cleared. An Active fault becomes Inactive as soon as the fault condition no longer exists (the engine cools below 212 in this case).

An Inactive fault will not affect engine operation. As soon as the key is turned off and back on, the fault will no longer be an Inactive fault - but it will be recorded in the Freezframe memory. It can only become Active again if the condition occurs again. Nothing in Freezframe memory will ever affect engine performance/operation, only Active (fault condition currently exists) faults can.

Dave

You have a serious a fatal problem if you flip the keys to someone to take a spin and they run above +212 for a while. Have someone find the reason for the over heating.

Cyclops - I'm not even running it until I find the problem, let alone flipping my keys to someone (that'd be a serious logic problem). I'm still looking for the reason, I'm not ready to punt yet....found the diagnostic software to get for my laptop so I can see exactly what is happening and when. Going to put on a regular Alpha drive this Saturday to see if it is just a volume problem with the low water pickups.
