I noticed that the 40hp-70hp Etecs are basically the same motor...same gear ratio, cc, etc. Then what is the difference? is it in the fuel injection system? or what? Can a 50hp be converted to a 60hp or 70hp? I am just curious. I have no intentions or abilities to do this anyway.

Thanks
Chris

I don't know the answer but my guess would be in the computer. I wonder if the WOT rpm is the same.

I am sure that ANY attempt to modify a new ETEC would void the warranty in a heartbeat, and might even be illegal due to emissions being tampered with...
- Scott

I wouldn't do anything to void the warranty. I was just curious. I was just wondering what the difference is between these motors.

You wouldn't be able to, even if you wanted. E-tec EMM's can only be obtained through BRP tech service. (for now anyways) Your dealer is going to need a really good reason before they'll ship him one, even for the 40HP.

Remember, the emmissions regulations that caused the E-tec to come into being, is the same legislation that makes it illegal for you, or your dealer to make this change. Even the "3-star" decal on the back of the engine cannot be messed with.(legally)
