I have a 67' 9.5 horsepower Johnson, and when running in my water container, it sprays water out of the back, underneath the engine.

Thing is, it sprays, it's not a stream.

Seems like so long as water is above the anti cavitation plate, it sprays. But if it's below it, it doesn't.

Sprays the same at all RPMs.

This is a picture of the grommet from which the water sprays.

thats a pretty good water flow to me. and you will absolutely need to have the water line above the cav plate.

Is the water line in that pic about where I will need to set it?

That or higher. The water pump is just under the bottom of the midsection and needs to be submerged when running in a bucket.

When you are running on the water the propeller pushes the water into the water intake so it is not so important then.
