Picked up a motor that the guy said was a 1997 302 5.0 ford OMC Cobra motor. How can I tell what size it is and the year. The valve cover on left side has a tag with model and serial numbers from OMC. It is a ford motor and has what looks like an OMC power trim package that is hydraulic that the mount goes all the way under the motor. I have a 302 ford that I am rebuilding and another block thaqt came out of an f150 truck. the rears match as far as the bolt hold. the OMC Cobra belhousing mounts up and the center hub that matches up with the outdrivve fits as well.

The motor I just picked up does not match the bellhousing and the center hub does not fit properly. It has OMC parts on it but the pieces that would fit with the cobra do not fit. It is a six hole mount in the rear. Can any one hel;p with identification of this thing. The guy swears it is a 1997 motor. I thought that OMC and the ford 302 5.0 stopped being made in 1993.

Please give me some input.

Marine 302s differ from automotive 302s. Marine 302s are a mix of truck blocks, 351 cam, high perf heads

what do the intake manifold bolts measure across the intake, Memory is a bit old but I think 302 is around 8 1/2 and 351 is around 9 1/2 inches

Here are the numbers on the port side valve cover. There are 4 numbers. Mod. No. 302APRMED, Ser. No. T112403B and below this line is Mod. No. 985687, Ser. No. T0677905. The person I got it from said he had used it in the water (ocean) for about a year. It was installed on an older boat with stringer mount and the big rubber rig OMC outdrive. Maybe the reason it has the hydraulic power trim setup that would have mounted on the stringer.

What is confusing to me is that on the rear section where the bellhousing would mount it has a different hole pattern than my other 2 302 crankcases. The basic long block looks the same except for the bell housing mount.

The picture of the 2 blocks it appears to be the 302 on the left. The distributor does not sit as deep. The intake manifold bolt mounting is approx 8" to 8 1/2" across. Is it possible that the long block is a 1997 302 and the guy adapted it to stringer mount?

Can anyone help with the model and year with the numbers I provided? After looking further it appears that all the marine parts that I have will mount except for the bell housing. I would think that I should be able to buy one possibly off a Volvo to fit my cobra outdrive. Motor has great compression and is very clean with a 2 barrel carb. The carb cover has a decal sayong 5.0 HO.

I look forward to your input.

Thanks
Jack

The motor is assembled and is running. Has great compression on all cylinders. Are the numbers on the heads under the valve covers or out side? I know that there are numbers on the starter side high on the block towards the rear.
I will look right away.

Thanks
Jack
