OK, I know how the slamming will start, racist redneck and all that. Thats ok, I'll accept it. Not a racist, but definetly a redneck. I see this in Kalipornia's future also. What am I talking about? This-

For the first time since the 1800s, non-Hispanic whites are no longer the majority ethnic group in Texas, according to new Census Bureau information.

Whether in the U.S. legally or illegally, Texas now is dominated by Hispanics, most of whom once hailed from south of the border in Mexico.

"Texas was dominated by Indians and a few Spanish settlers until 1821, when the new Mexican government allowed Americans to enter as long as they pledged allegiance, turned Catholic and learned Spanish," the Houston Chronicle reported Friday.

Since then, however, as more whites entered, an independence movement began. The revolution succeeded in ousting Mexico's control over Texas in 1836, and by the time it became a U.S. state, whites dominated the landscape.

Along with Texas' lose of the white majority, the Census Bureau also found the state's poverty rate has been on the rise as well.

Supporters of immigration reform say the state's poverty statistics directly coincide with its loss of the white majority, being replaced mostly by poor Hispanic migrants from Mexico.

Kinda like south Florida.... Hispanics and New Yorkers.... What's a cracker to do???

Of course we have to let the cubans in... Sure.. Let em' all in!... Fight the communists, human rights, oppressive cuban government, Castro, blah, blah, blah, blah, and all the rest of that crap...... Plus, the majority of cubans are registered republican, so of course the republcans can't offend their hispanic constituants by taking a stand on the issue......... Cubans are very small minority when it comes to hispanics as a whole. Hispanics are overwhelmingly denmocrats. Legal or not.

I wouldn't be happy about that myself Kenneth.

I deal with spanish people every day. I don't consider myself racist, but I have never met someone of spanish nationality that I cared for. I'm not saying that they arn't out there, but there culture teaches them to act that way, sometimes its not even their falt, thats the way they where taught to act and they know no other way.

Like it or not, they are taking over. More and more every day in MA. They haven't made it to our neaghorhood yet, they are in the more poor parts of MA, but they'll get here. When that happens is when I'll move to Maine. . . you can go days at a time in Maine without seeing a spanish person, and black people are rare (I have no prolbem, with blacks BTW)

Want to get a spanish guy REAL mad? Walk up to him and say "cadda'de'chocki"......not sure if I'm spelling it the way it sounds. If you know spanich swears please correct me.

Have to agree with 1730V. You have to seperate the Cubans from the Mexicans and other South American Hispanics. I lived and worked in Cuba as a young man[1950's] and found the Cubans very energetic and hard-working. Their work ethic was much like ours, or like it used to be. The Cuban people also genuinely liked Americans, one of the few countries in that area that did. Of course, it was a different story after Castro got through with his re-education program. I'm not knocking the Mexicans, just saying they are different. In D.C., where my daughter lives, the only people you can find to do home repairs at a reasonable price and in a reasonable time are Mexicans. They are punctual and do what they say they'll do without a lot of excuses. The average American contractor is over-priced, leaves the job whenever his cell phone rings and you never know when he'll show up again.

I don't mind spanish people, but I do mind people who can't speak english and use my tax dollars without paying any taxes themselves - white, black, mexican, asian, whatever. I think they should all be rounded up and shipped directly back where they came from.

Thats what happens when Hispanics breed uncontrollably and white people are too caught up in their selfish lifes to have kids.

Hispanic immgrants are generally hard workers that have pulled up from their roots, and managed to make it here. You have to respect someone for leaving everything behind to improve their lives.

As for the news, all I have to say is "Duh!" Walk anywhere in Houston and the majority are hispanic, and more are speaking spanish. I just wish they took the time to learn english, but with dual language labels, spanish TV, and spanish schools, what is their motivation to learn english?

P.S. This is coming from a husband of an immgrant, and english is her second language.

Ken

I agree totally. My parents neighborhood is almost exclusively mexican now (NO, not spanish, MEXICAN) and they do a lot to improve their lives. The only thing is is they bring others down to their level with them.

Yep. Almost all of my inlaws live in City of South Houston, right on the edge of Pasadena. Seelers Bros is a grocery store there. I have to ask what some things are because its almost all in spanish with no pictures on the box.

Re: Not so good news , at least for me

A native Texan myself, I have a few things to say.

I grew up on the banks of the Rio Grande. I know what's what. At least, when it comes to this issue.

I oppose the unrestricted flow of Mexicans into the USA, and the federal Governement is guilty of dereliction of duty.

It is true also that there is a radical core of Mexicans in the US who have every intention of taking over the Southwest and returning it to Mexico. This is no joke.

But to know Texas, you cannot escape knowing Mexico, at least as things were in the old days. Many fine families of Mexican descent are among the seedstock of Texas. Many of these people have names like "Garza" and "Vasquez," and I know them to be as fine Americans as any named Smith or Miller or Johnson. Oddly enough, some of them have names like Spencer.

All I want to point out here is that we have to be extremely careful when we point at people who we think ought to be considered interlopers.

With that said, I say we should close the border and place armed men every hundred yards. But I don't think we need to worry about folks because they happen to have a name like Ramirez and the census bureau calls them "hispanic."

-dd-
