not running full capacity

I have a 2000 model 40 hp remote. I noticed water pump about 1/2 capacity.After running it for about 2 miles,it started slowing down with throttle wide open. After a minute or so it shut off. I started it back but would not run wide open.Acts like missing a little.Thanks for the help.

It sounds like you overheated it. <br /><br />You need to get it diagnosed, you might have cooked the motor. You probably had a water pump or thermostate issue which now may be a engine rebuild. <br /><br />I hope its not that serious. A word to the wise, when ANY motor driven vehicle act's or does something different than its ever done before, stop and investigate before a minor issue becomes a major problem. <br /><br />Good luck

check compression. is your first move, tell us what you find. you can plan on the minimum replacing the impellor, and probably the thermo. make sure you didn't pick up something to clog the water inlets. in some of the Florida lakes we have a problem with picking up Hydrilla (like seaweed) and cloging the cooling system. good luck.

Should I get gaskets with the impellor,or just be carefull and reuse old one?Where is the thermostat and how hard is it to replace?

The compression was 150 on upper and 155 on lower.I installed new plugs.The stream of water from the water pump is is steady,maybe all the pressure as needed. My gas had little water and trashy . I replaced and ran it high speed 30-40 minutes. It seemed ok.It sounds like missing on low speed, but high is excellent.Which carb screw will help that?
