Not good when the tractor shows up at the ramp!!

I took these pictures a couple of years ago after finishing up a walleye tournament. We were all sitting around telling fish stories while quenching our thirst and watched this disaster take place. We saw it go in, just did not have a camera in time.

4th picture: Owner under water hooking chain to truck.He was down quite some time, a lot longer than I can hold my breath. This was spring time as well, water temps around 70 degrees. Not warm by any means.

The guy with the tractor is a friend of mine who happens to own the marina store and slips just around the cove. He says he does this at least once a year.

I rent out half of my shop to a guy that has a 30 carver and a v-10 dodge in there. He would never think about launching that boat with his truck. He has the marina tractor do it because he worked at a marina when he was a kid.

Based on my personal experiences with Dodge Rams, he should have just left it there and salvaged the trailer somehow.

Cool pict's! here's another tractor story. My Dad now lives at the lake, and was going out to cut some wood. On the road to one to the boat launches, a couple guys in a pickup flag him down and ask him if he knows if anyone has a tractor around. Lucky for them, my Dad has the only tractor for probably 20 miles. He's not that keen to drop everything and go help them out, but he does anyway. Takes about an hour for him to go back, get the tractor out, and drive the 5 miles or so to the boat launch. The problem was that the two geniuses decided they couldn't bear to wait for their turn at the ramp, so decided to launch their boat from the ground beside the ramp. This is a small dredged out channel, so the sides are 6" or so diameter rock, and it gets deep very quick. Of course their trailer was in waaay too deep water and hanging from the tongue at about a 40 degree angle.

It took him about on hour of fiddling with it to get it out, and it would've been impossible if his tractor hadn't had a loader on it. He basically had to lift the trailer up out of the channel with the bucket as he dragged it out.

He's talking about getting rid of the tractor this summer. Pretty much the only thing it gets used for helping out people that just did something idiotic in the first place.... that for helping local residents that seem to think that they're doing HIM a favor by having some task where he can use his tractor/loader.

I feel for him, not that i would wish this to happen to anyone. It cost him some big $$$ for repair and it sure is going to be a memoriable moments. Looking at the picture the ramp looks pretty steep and one misstep on the brake and in to the water you go! Better luck next time.
