not full power under load

I have a 1973 Johnson 50 hp. On initial take off,it seems to have full power for about 15-20 seconds.Then the power reduces to half or less.When I bring throttle back to idle for approx i min. it will take off again with same results as above. Thanks for help./

Does the power reduce like you turned off a switch?Or does it waver up and down gradually ending at about half?Or does it slow gradually as if under a strain.CAREFULLY feel the head after you run it.It should be too hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it burns you.Feel CAREFULLY.If too hot you may have a weak water pump or maybe a bad thermostat.

I am having the same problem, I think it may be a leaky fuel line connector I just discovered..
