Just got set up on this forum - looks like a lot of great knowledge and helpful people. My "problem" is that my 2001 Monterey Edge with a 3.0 l Volvo I/O seems noisy on the water. We just bought the boat used last year, and everyone now says that it is one of the noisiest boats on our lake. I have noticed that it is definitiely noiser than some of the other (newer) i/os on the lake.I have asked my mechanic and he says there is nothing wrong. I myself have looked it over and see no reason for it to be loud. I thought the exhaust essentially just exits, via the bellows (which appears intact from the outside) and then through the prop. Am I missing something? Or is there some kind of internal baffle that quietens the exhaust and, if so, could this be corroded enough to increase the exhaust noise (yeah - I know - I am applying car muffler logic to a boat, oh well !). The sound is rich, kinda like a nice v8 with headers, but it gets a bit tiring hearing it all the time (especially the comments from other people). I have considered some type of problem with the water flow under the boat (you know - cavitation or something), but the boat seems to run fine, so ??
Any ideas?
