Hi, well maybe somebody read and help me on the overheating one, and I sure thank you for that.

OK here I go, The engine runs fine, (still have to work on the water) sounds great and crank up really fast and good. but while is idle outside the water I can hear a kind loud noise coming from the upper drive, more kinda back of the engin where it connects to the upper Drive unit and the unit.

I noticed that the Outdrive is filled much higher than normal and with some kind of gearbox Oil, I can tell cause of the smell is pretty different than regular Oil.

In the manual I downloaded from Volvo, I read that the Outdrive should be filled with the same Oil as the engine. I know is not like that in Mercruiser, I try to get 73 Boat running some time ago and it turned out to be too much of a Hustle for a beginner like me.

So, I guess questions in clear are:.

- Is the noise ok while outside the water? (in it it sounds ok)
- Can it be the overfilling that is causing problems because of building up too much preasure in the unit?
- should I change the Oil to regular Oil like the Manual says?

Thank you for your help.

Yes, change your gear lube. 30W engine oil is best for your drive, and don't overfill it. Can't help you with the noise, I can't hear it.
I would also pull the upper gear box and check the ujoints, and also run the engine and make sure the noise is not caused by the bearings in the engine bellhousing.

Don's right. Old Volvo's are clunky in turns at slow speeds but they don't knock at idle. Being that the "U joints" need to be greased when the drive is off (and it probably hasn't happened) they are most likely shot or at least its time to change them out anyway.
