Well the boats up and running,Thanks again to everyone:)

15' Hobie Skiff with 1985 Evinrude 40hp. Fast.

When I move the lever to reverse a clicking noise comes from the control box and reverse isn't engaging. Sounds like a cable spinning?

The clicking may be the nuetral detent. If it is not enagaging check the engine end of the cable. Does it move?

If not, you'll have to split the control box and see what's up in there.

Thanks not that click sound;).

The clicking noise comes from inside the box and sounds like a cable spinning and gets faster as I retard the control handle.

Re: Noise from control box

Are you absolutely sure the noise is comeing from the control box? There is nothing to rotate in the control box. The cable is a push-pull opeation. Since you don't have reverse, the noise you hear sounds like the clutch dogs skipping in the lower unit and the noise is being transmitted up the shift shaft, through the linkage to the cable and hence the control box. You have a misadjusted shift cable.
