no water to upper unit

i have a evinrude 1971 100 i was running a cross the lake and it shut down to one head i shut it down and got towed in i thought it was the impeller i pulled the lower unit and impeller was good i put a moon key in . started it up still no water i then did the vernstat while i had apart i ran water through the heads and all seem fine put it all back together with a new vernstat new hoses i started it up still no water but the water is running out the lower unit seem and all the ports on the lower unit i geuss i need to pull lower unit off and pull tubes not sure of there shape if ya could guide me let me know what else i need to try <br /><br />thanks <br />roy

Check your compression and see if they are close or not. If not, your head gasket can be blown, giving a "blow-by" to the water jacket keeping the water from circulating even tho it will show water in the pump and all around the lower unit. It just can't get to the engine.
