At idle speeds there is no water spray coming out of my DF2.5. At higher rpms I get a hot almost steam like spray. Is the impellor bad?

Re: NO water spray

I would say so. Either that or you have a blockage somewhere in the motor. Look at the water intake grate. Is there anything visable blocking the grate or just inside? Have you tried it with the muffs on to see if you can push water through. Have you started the motor out of the water with out muffs? That will destroy a impellor in seconds.

When was the last time the impeller was replaced? If you are looking to do it yourself, just be sure ALL of the impellor is still there if you do. If it is not then you will have parts possibly blocking the water flow up into and out of the engine.

Not sure about getting those out with out pulling more parts off. Maybe someone else has ideas.

I changed my impeller the other day and one of the flaps was missing. Luckily it had not gotten far and I was able to get it out.

I would definately try with the ear muffs on and see if the water flows out in a stteady stream as yelladog mentioned.

If you used this engine in dirty/low water conditions you may have forced some dirt through the system which may have plugged the outlet. I had the same problem with my old Evinrude. I got a small piece if wire/guitar string and inserted slightlyt into the outlet and found it was placked just at the opening.

Also, I assume you replaced with a new impeller, if not I would definatly do so.

Thermostat?

Cheers.

if there is no water coming out, I would be hesitant to give it any throttle. You could overheat/warp and damage a lot of other parts. you could also have a problem with your thermostat. after starting it shouldn't take but 30 seconds or so to open up
