An '84 85hp force motor did great all summer unitl this fall when after an all day outing, the wife launches a hole shot in a sandy shallow area after droping me off the get the trailer. Minutes later she is rowing in as the overheat horn sounded. Have had the lower unit off. Impeller looks/seems in perfect cond. Removed housing, checked out intake area etc. Forced water out of therm housing via garden hose. Confirmed pin was in slot on shaft, reassembled and not water pumping out of therm housing or anywhere.<br />While reassembling, I put a small rubber sleve that fell out earlier back on the shifting linkage. Did that belong were the water tube meets the head source tube? I also used liquid gasket to re-seal the impeller housing. Otherwise, out of ideas. Any help for the novice is greatly appreciated.

Tin Driver, I believe your impeller might have been borderline before it ingested lots of sand. Replace the complete pump and make positively sure the pump housing and the water tube are coming together .If you took out the tube when dropping the lower unit , slip the tube into the power head first ,then attach the lower unit and you can see somewhat the tube going into the water pump. Give it a try. nevjb

There is supposed to be a rubber grommet that the water tube slips into on the powerhead end. Was what you found about the size that would fit on the tube? If the grommet is missing, this could be your problem. Pull the LU off again and look to see if that grommet is in place in the powerhead end. Obviously, replace the impeller and housing while you're in there. It may look fine, but the blades get a "Set" that can stop it from pumping.

On chryslers the water impeller has a metal hex type nut that is glued to the rubber. On mine the rubber lost its adhesion to the metal hex type nut in the middle. The impeller looked fine but when it would spin on the drive shaft only the metal hex nut would spin and the impeller would not. Not sure how the force impellers but if it is similar this might be your problem
