Hello, I hope you can give me an answer on my latest problem. Motor: 1975 Johnson 50 HP that was setting for 2years in Phoenix. Was able to start motor and see water flowing from upper exhaust vents as well as pee hole. Decided to replace water pump due to long storage. Marina parts mechanic told me there was no need to use any sealent on lower unit reassembly. Is that correct? After pump replacement, I have no water coming out of the upper exhaust vents. Water is flowing from the pee hole. Water is now flowing from around the shock mount on the lower unit. I shut off the motor fearing it might get to hot. I hate to have to drop that lower unit again to check the water tube. Should water always flow out the exhaust vents or only after the motor heats up? Thanks for your time,
Roger

G'Day. The water comes out of these holes when the thermostat opens. No you don't put sealent on the lower unit when refitting. I'm not sure of the water coming out past the mounts, maybe someone else can help.

Hi Roger, Same thing happened on my 45hp chrysler...I was so happy to get the $#@ driveshaft in i forgot about the water tube lining up and yes it can come out the lower exhaust without the water tube...on mine anyhow. It gets easier the more you drop and replace the l/u .

Rich

I just had to let it warm up a little. The water flows fine.
