Okay so i picked up this 15HP Honda 4 stroke from a buddy of mine. It is a 2001 and has not been run for over a year. I got it all hooked up to the battery and submerged the leg in a garbage can full of water and hit the electric start. It fired up instantly and began to idle nicely. Everything looked real good except there was not water coming out the water discharge. I took the screens off the intake and made sure there was nothing plugging it and removed the line to the discharge hole and checked it as well. Everything looked clear and my owners amnualk does not mention anything else to look for?? Any ideas on why the water is not flowing? Is this something I can tackle myself or am I going to have to take it to a mechanic???

Any info appreciated
Thanks
Chris

Re: no water flow???

Since it's been sitting, you'll want to replace the impeller...which may also be the cause of not water.

Drop the LU and take a peek. The impeller may have broken some vanes and plugged up the copper pick-up tube.

Was the motor over heating when you were running it? If not, you may still have a plugged discharge tube.

Nonetheless, you'll want to replace the impeller ASAP.

Determine what part of the cooling system has stopped working.

In all likelyhood you have a 15d and not a 15a but it would be nice to know as this is close to the model change so lets go with the 15d.You will need to remove the gearcase to inspect the waterpump.First shift the unit into reverse and that will allow access to the shift coupler.Loosen the jam nut and try to disturb it as little as possible while backing off the long coupler nut. Then remove the 5 10mm bolts securing the gearcase to the exhaust housing and with a few taps with a soft hammer on the tailstock[this thing will not just fall off of there]the gearcase will come down.Remove the waterpump housing and inspect both the impeller and housing.Look very carefully at the housing for ANY signs of meltage or distortion. That ought to get you started.

Similar problem. Have a 2006 Honda BF15 that was overheating. Replaced the thermostat and impeller and bought the flush attachment. All good except when using the flush attachment, water comes out of the pee hole and the vents above the antiventilation plate but no water comes out of the intake screens. Seems like the water pump will not be flushed unless water comes out of the lowest screens. Is there something wrong or is that okay.
