Good morning all,
Total newbie here so I apologize if my questions don't belong here.

I have a 1995 Johnson 40hp Outboard that starts and within about 60 seconds depending on how it is idling dies (this is another question post).

My question is, once the engine starts, shouldn't there be a small amount of water coming from the hose at the back of the motor? I have attached water muffs to the bottom set of water intake but at no time does water come out that hose or anywhere else.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

try to fix the dying issue first

....pumping water means impeller , missing impeller key water tube obstructions , internal passages, plugged up pee hose etc....

best to get your engine running more than 60 seconds.

if you think it dies from being HOT.... then work the cooling problem first.

Got it. I was worried this might damage the engine. Thank you again for all of your help.
