Just thought I'd share an interesting tidbit.

On NPR this morning...NO was at or near sea level when built...it's been sinking at about two feet per hundred years, while sea level has risen eight inches or so.

it sinks because of compaction of the ground it sits on. Before the levees the river deposited sediment there keeping the ground at or near sea level.

interesting stuff, because that is not what the media is telling us.
I have always heard that it WAS built below sea level.
So, I wonder what all the water that flooded NO will do to the ground now. Will NO sink at a faster rate now?

Good question bc, all that water is a huge amount of weight.
