After I got tried of the ole Johnson 85hp I wanted to get a newer outboard 90-115hp for around the 1000-1500 price range. I have been looking for a month and there are no motors to be found any where even the dealers said they are to find in this area. How is the used market in your area?.......

You may find your best chance will be to purchase a used boat/motor/trailer. Often, the engine is the only item of value.

I feel for you!!!! I went through the same thing and I was looking for the same type motor and was willing to spend more and came up emptyhanded for almost a year.I looked here in NY and when I was on vacay in FLA.I changed my strategy and began looking at boats and wound up getting a 96 150 Ocean Pro from the orig owner sitting on a boat that I had no use for and the trailer was only 2 years old.I am going to donate the boat.Charlie

Re: No Used Outboards Anywhere!

The best way to get a good deal on an outboard and/or boat (not the trailer more on that later) is drive around in what had been a very nice area to live, but now is aged some. The houses were not low end so the toys are better and more money was spent on maintinance. The boats in these areas are now 10 or more years old and not used much, if at all anymore. Just look for the boats with the most grass growing up around them, one reason the boats are not used anymore is the the trailer rotted away. Even good boats can come on some cheap (junk) trailers. the owner won't spend the money to buy a new one, so it just sits. Go to the house during the day when the husband isn't home, the wife will be pleased to discuss moving the eye sore next to the house. She will pressure the husband to get rid of it, or he may not be in the picture anymore and she may sell it cheap on the spot. If they want you to take the boat too, offer less money. I have done this to get many boat parts. I bought an eight year old 90HP for $400 bucks doing this and my current jet boat for $1,000 (boat motor and trailer).
It's fun.

Good luck

Re: No Used Outboards Anywhere!

My nieghbor was going to GIVE me a boat that needed a motor........ After checking with the local dealers for a used motor I decided that I could not afford to take his FREE boat! Within three weeks I found a good boat, motor, and trailer for a third of the cost of a used motor. I would say that the good deals will probably be "package" deals.

I have to agree with Ondarvr, especially the point about the trailer. I've bought three boats and have had to rebuild two trailers.
