I have a 1991 75 HP Merc. that does not tilt. The soloinds click but no motor. The manual by pass screw is chewed up and won't turn. Can someone help me as to raising the engine to get at the tilt motor? Is the manual screw plastic or is this just a cover pulg?

Re: No tilt problem

I had a similar problem with my '97 Merc 175. The problem was a corroded wire leading to the lift motor. The manual by-pass screw to which you refer is plastic on my engine. I drilled a whole in the plastic "screw" (which looks more like a dip stick of some kind) and tapped in a flat-tip screw driver. This allowed me to turn it and get it out.

Hope this helps.
