I am experiencing a problem with my 1979 115hp Merc. ThunderBolt. Let me start off by saying, I have very limited knowledge of outboard repair so, please bear with me. First thing, I can't raise the rpm's of the motor. The motor starts fine but when I move the throtle control into forward or reverse, I get nothing. In the driveway I have noticed that the forward and reverse is working by watching the prop. I have manually moved a big linkage by hand and the motor raises rpm. Only when I move the linkage. I am starting to think I have a cable problem of some sort. I just don't know how to remove the cable or test it correctly. I might be wrong. I figured I would seek some assistance before I rely on some marine shop. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Re: No Throttle/Raised RPM's

You've got 2 control cables going to the engine. One shifts it the other is the throttle. You don't have to have the engine running to see if the throttle cable is working. Have someone push the control lever foreward while you watch the cables at the engine. You will see the shift cable move the shift linkage then you should see the throttle cable advance the throttle linkage.

May have cables reversed at motor or out of adjustment...
