Hello all! I would like to start out saying that i've used these forums religiously for other issues i've had & solved & want to thank everyone for their knowledge, but now this is not your everyday problem. I picked up over the winter a 1977 Johnson 35 electric start motor and im installing it on my 67 seastar mustang that i brought back to life last year. In the process of getting her going again i have installed a tach for this motor on the boat. I have the whole pole thing figured out but trying to find a signal wire has been nothing short of impossible. Finally i noticed last night that this motor does NOT have any stator wires (yellows & red) coming down from under the flywheel. Just the 4 wires that make their way to the power pack. I have a rectifyer & terminal block but no stator wires. Charging the battery is not my main concern, i just want to be able to hook my tach up. Is this still possible to do using the charging coil wires that go to the power pack? Surely there has been a need for someone owning a manual start motor to have a functioning tach, because basically this is what i have...a manual start motor with an electric starter even though all the ingredients are there for an electric start model except for the stator. Im looking in my service manual at my wiring diagram for the Electric start version looking for those 4 wires to come out from under the flywheel but know luck. Am i overlooking something? Stator assemblies are mighty pricey`, im hoping i wont have to buy one just to use a tach. Any help i can get from you experts would be mighty appreciated...Please!
