Good morning everyone on Friday I changed my ignition switch, it works well turned on turned over right away, yesterday I went to go start it the electric choke works but no click or no sound when I turn the key, the fly wheel turns when I jump it to the starter, anyone have any idea what could be going on, it’s a 1983 Suzuki 85 hp DT85

see if the starter relay is getting any power from the switch when you turn it to start position.
the neutral start switch may be open not allowing power to go thru

Only wire that appears to be getting any voltage is the choke one

Are you using a volt meter to check the power to the switch and other wires leaving the switch?

Key word here is "appears"

You can't guess. Do you have a meter and know how to use one? Not super difficult.

You can try jiggling your shift throttle lever because maybe the neutral switch got messed up when changing out the key switch.

Alright so I had someone come look at it. There’s nothing coming from the selenoid and thignition. He said the writes are super old and damaged. Recommended getting a rewire. He found some wires looked good but had small shorts in them

Okay now all the wires are good with proper voltage. It cranks the flywheel but won’t turn over now. Any other suggestions

I think what your saying is it's turning over now but it won't start....or run. Correct?

Next thing to check for is a spark....do you own a spark plug tester? It's possible you haven't fixed all of the wires.

I don’t own a spark plug tester but when I turn the key, the starter raises and spins the fly wheel. Is there a wire I should be looking for, he has one that is labeled selenium that was not plugged in I’m not sure if that’s it

Buy the $10 tester.------Or 2 pieces of wire glued onto some cardboard.----Put 3/8" gap between the wires.------One end into sparkplug boot.-----Other end clipped to the block.-----Crank it over and see if you have spark at the gap.-----Proof of a capable ignition system.

Should I try to hook up the solenoid wire first, I think the guy helping me may have forgot to do so

If you turn the key and the starter is working then I would say that the solenoid is hooked up !!

Ok ya it’s just confusing because I turn the key and the starter works but he’s got a yellow wire labeled solenoid that I know was hooked to the solenoid part of the ignition switch on the last one that worked.
