OMC 5.0 L Engine

The engine will turn over, but it will not start. Actually, sometimes it will start, but then dies after a few minutes.

One other problem: sometimes the entire engine unit shakes for several minutes after it starts.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

It's NOT the starter, b/c I've already had this replaced.

Thank you!

Re: No Start

Just curious: If the starter turned the engine over enough to start it, why on earth would you replace it?
You left out all the pertinant info: year, when and how this problem began, (after sitting 12 years? after a fuel fill up? after you heard loud knocking noise from engine?), maintainence, etc.

Wild guesses?

Fuel: old fuel, water in fuel, clogged filter, etc
Choke: Sticking open/closed
Bad distributor cap: cracked, corroded, etc
Plug wires: fell off, miswired from prior work, etc
Fuel Pump: diaphram failed (won't leak on a marine engine when it does)
Timing: been moved and way too far advanced/retarded?

Or 1,000 other things.

Post more info.

Re: No Start

sounds like a shift interrupt switch tripping cutting voltage down to your ignition system. Usually caused by a bad shift cable.
