No spark

Recently purchased a boat with a 1991 Tohatsu 40 horse. M40D. 3C8. 31293. I knew the motor didn’t run when I purchased but the price was right. What I know about the motor. It has had a new head gasket installed. The motor left him stranded on the water, he installed a new CDI box, said it ran fine for a while then quit again. I have worked on Johnson outboards but have zero experience with Tohatsu. I started tinkering with it today. New fresh gas, wouldn’t start. Used an inline spark plug test light, have no spark on all 3 cylinders. Where do I start? Does someone have a no spark check list? If you give guidance please be specific. Wire colors, voltages, resistance etc. Have a good shop nearby but thought I would try here first. Thanks

Better get a M40D Service Manual, all the requested info is stated there including how to troubleshoot indivual electrical components.
