No spark

1975 mercury 850 will not start. Did a test on the switch and everything checked out. Sparks everytime i touch wire to ground, but i do not have any spark at the plugs. Someone said the trigger might be the problem,but im lost. Please Help. Where is the trigger and hoe can i test it.

The trigger is above the cap on the dist. CDI electronics has the test procedure and new triggers. But I would take the cap off and look at it it might be missing the carbon brush and spring (seen it a few times) DO NOT try to pry off the rotor it's molded on to the shaft and, the wires screw into the cap [so they don't fall off] so don't pull them out. I have also seen the lead from the coil arc to ground even though it looked good.
