Hi,
Having trouble will a Brown band 1979 60 merc, there is no spark, I think its the trigger unit or CDI not shure what to call it.
There are pulses comming from the three wires from the flywheel so I think thats ok. What is puzleing is that the top 4 conecters are are earths, the top left turns to a light earth when the ignition is turned on and then goes to pos when cranking is this normal? any help would be welcome before any money is spent.

Re: no spark

Cant seem to get any of the resistance values to match, but am now certain its the trigger unit, we are getting pulses from the flywheel from all of the wires on cranking, the local marine engineer has one in stock ?106+vat so going to try it.

Re: no spark

We ended up changing the cdi unit to no avail, still no spark, disconnected the harness plug and it sparks. It still will not start not even trying, we thought the sparks may be at the wrong time/cyclinder but having changed them over trying different combinations still it will not run can anyone help?Compressions all 130 ish fuel is getting through and its sparking but will not run

Re: no spark

Turns out to be the stator, common fault it would seem ?240 on top of the cdi at ?110 still its ok now.
