This has been a good motor up until this season but when I tried to get it running I discovered it had no fire at all. Points & Plugs look good, coils are only a few years old as are the condensers. Magneto seems charged.

What should I look for first to fix it? Plugs?

Thanks,

Check all the wire connections and try different plugs, just as a spark test. Points often look fine but can be foiled by a light film of dirt. After I clean and regap I run a business card in the gap as a wipe...sometimes with alcohol on the card. Should be something simple, just keep your patience until you find it.

Thanks, I just went ahead and bought a new set of points & condensers. $20 for some future insurance is worth it to me. If that doesn't do it I'll change the plugs too and report results. There may be others with the same problem.:)

Got spark!!

Got spark!!

Just replaced then points and condensors and got the fire back. In fact I didn't think it would work so I held the spark plug at the electrode, spun the flywheel by hand and got popped pretty good.;) LOL

Now I'm about ready to see if she'll run. She did before so she should again. It's amazing to me to see this 52 year old motor just keep on running.

BTW, the old points looked brand new with no pitting whatsoever. I guess you can't tell by looking all the time.

Got fire, still no start after adding fresh fuel. Guess plugs will be next to change.:%
