Thunderbolt ignition, 4-cyl, 1973?? not sure about year. I took the boat out of storage a couple of days ago, and when it came time to start it, it started after cranking for about 3 seconds. After that, it would start immediately. Unless it set for a couple of hours, then it would take about 1 second. It was also nice and warm that day. The next day was cooler, about 45, and I couldn't get it to start all day. I was getting no spark to the plugs. Today was cold and rainy, 50 degrees, and it still wouldn't start. the rain finally got to where I wasn't comfortable opening electrical Items.
I guess what I'm getting to here is, 5 years ago, my boat would only start after it got over a certain temperature, and then start every time. The marine mechanic said that it had to be the trigger, and replaced it. It worked great after that, till the end of last year.
I'm hoping it stays cool tomorrow so I can troubleshoot the problem. That's where I need your help. I have, and can use' a volt/ohm meter, and I have a wiring diagram of the motor. The starter turns, the elec. choke works, but I can't tell where I should be getting voltage by looking at the diagram. Could somebody walk me through some checks I can make tomorrow?
Any and all help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
cork
