The motor ran real well on the test run before I bought it. But now that I own it there is no spark. The first couple of times I tryed to start the engine I could not seem to get any fire. I did end up getting the engine started after about 10 minutes and flooding out the carbs. I replaced the NGK BR8HS plugs with the BR8hs10 plugs and it cranked up on second or third turn in neutral giving it a little throddle. Ran the boat for 25 minutes and now can not get spark. I pulled the spark plug out, connected it to the spark plug cap wire, grounded it to the motor and turned the key over but no spark. Have not had the boat long enough to get a manual but I will. Any suggestions before I take it to the shop.

The first thing to check for is the kill switch. Check that you have the key inserted in the kill switch. If its not that, then disconnect the kill switch wiring to see if you have a bad kill switch. Post your results. :)

Be sure the battery is good and hot. If it does not spin fast enough it won't fire.

Thanks Asianz320 and Ray N, we disconnected kill switch wires at motor and still no spark. Mechanic thinks it is the trigger and cdi? He thinks it will cost $60 or so to have the cdi rebuilt, the trigger? do not know yet. Just bought the boat last week. Not the way to start things off. Ray, battery turns the fly wheel quickly but I will check the volts. Thanks guys.

The failure rate on those electrics is almost nil. They certainly can't be repaired at that rate either. I am not aware of a reutable repair service for those items. The demand is too low.
Check your battery voltage by cranking with and without a charger hooked up to see if that cures your problem.

Have you checked all cylinders for a spark? I've usually seen one or two cylinders fail when it is the CDI giving problems, not the entire set of cylinders.
On the other hand, i've never heard of the CDI being repaired, and im sure if they are rebuildable its not going to be that cheap.

The CDI unit is $386.94 fot the 115 hp motor. You might want to make sure it is really bad before you replace it.

having the same problem with spark. checked all plugs ,no spark in number one cylinder, checked # 1 coil and it works, traced the wiring to the cdi. 4 wires come out of stator that have power but no power going to the #1 coil. what do u guys think .who has the cdi for that price 400$ under

there are two pulser coils(triggers) AND 2 cdi CHARGE COILS.two trigger coils control spark on 4 cylinders.
its possible to lose part of a pulser and lose spark on 1 cylinder.
as the other 3 spark not much sense in testing chargecoil output.
lose that and you lose all 4.
