How reliable are this CDI units? And shouldn't I be getting power at the grey wire to the coil? I bought this about 3 years ago and has been doing great but now I have no spark. I have power to the unit but if I'm correct I should have power at the grey wire to the coil. I haven't checked the points gap because God decided to let it rain on my vacation. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if these are junk can someone please direct me to where I can get a good one. I paid $300 for this and expected it to last longer.

Check the points first.
CDI Electronics does have good and reliable stuff.
If the CD module is shot then you can convert to auto style battery ignition, but only if you have points.

CDI stands behind their stuff
Someone just reported the same thing and CDI said send it back,
they'll test and replace if it's faulty!!!

I do not know about if you going to have power (voltage) at the gray wire.
You can check the CD module by pulling the HT wire from coil to distributor.
Put a plug in the HT wire from coil and ground it.
Set the keyswitch in ON position and you should have 12VDC at the blue wire at terminal board at engine block.
Unscrew the white/black wire from CD module at distributor and scratch it to good ground.
If CD module is okey it should spark at each scratch.
If it sparks then check the points , clean and recap to 014 if you have a 3 cylinder engine and 010 if you have four.
Also check all grounding wires specially at the distributor cause the grease in the swivel will insulate.
There should be a ground wire from distributor to engine block.
Outboardignition have the troubleshoot chart for the ignition system.

Ok, I did all this and I do have spark when scratching the white/black wire. I removed dist. and checked gap and it was at .014 Cleaned contact points and re-gapped. Cleaned all ground with sand paper including the terminals inside cap. Only thing I can think of at this point is to check for continuity of the points. Unfortunately, the multimeter that I keep at home has either grown legs or been kidnapped by a Gremlin

I installed new points about 3 years ago. I believe they were Redline points. If you know the link to the correct points that I need that would be great. The Sierra points are crap and don't last long due to the rubber part that rides the cam in the dist. I'm working on a 1974 75HP model 757-HA

Buy new points from Franz Marine. He has OEM if they are available.
Have you checked the HT wires in dist. and the carbon pin in the middle that rids to the rotor shaft.
As it sparks form coil the CDI module is okey.
The issue is in the dist. points, rotor or HT wires.
