Hello all,
I'm new at this so please excuse me if I mess up! Any ways, I have a 1977 Evinrude 115hp, model # 00003035 that I can not get to spark. The motor turns, but coils don't spark. I have already changed out the power pack and rectifier, but now I'm at a loss. I have checked to see if I am getting power to either side of the power pack on the coil wires, but neither side is getting power. The only thing left that I can think of is pulling the flywheel and looking at the stator and the switches under the flywheel. Can someone please help? The local marina said it would take at least three weeks before they would even look at it. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Thanks,
Ron a.k.a. Wolf

Which terminal do I hook the wire to in the red plug? And when you say a new switch are you talking about the ignition switch? If the switch is bad would the motor still turn over when the key is turned?
Sorry if it seems that I am asking some easy questions, this is my first boat, in ran when I bought it. Took it home and remodeled the interior, went to test the motor before taking it to the lake and no spark since.

you jump start it from the hot side of the solinoid.from that to the starter.its easy stand right there next to the motor.unplug the harness.yes the ignition switch is what we want out of the equation, they fail all the time.yes it will crank the motor if its bad.another thing to check, no wires rubing the fly wheel.Ill bet thats it.

Thanks Myles,
I'll try it and get back with you. I already looked all over the motor for bad connections and for loose, corroded, cut or fallty wiring. The wires under the flywheel are ok and still in the plastic protective sleve. Thanks again, I greatly appreciate it, as do my wife and kids if I can get it going!!!

Just wanted to put this back out there it seems that it was bumped off or something. I'll try the test out and get back on here tomorrow evening.

Hey Myles,
Thanks a big one!!!! I did the test and had spark :D Can it only be the switch or could it be anything else? Just want to make sure before going to parts store.

Thanks again, I greatly appreciate it .

wolf

Hi Wets,

Just this past weekend, had the same problem with my dad's 50 hp Merc (82 model). Couldn't figure out why there was no spark to engine even with new battery. Bypassed the starter switch and starter itself with jumper cables and it kicked off. It turned out to be a blown fuse just under the silenoid...changed it out and she sang sweet music.

im glad that worked.now you know the problem isnt on the motor!either wires or swith, its from the red plug back to the key.switch is $15-20 they go out a lot. you need a multi-meter to check continuity.$35 good luck

remember -boat stands for- Break Out Another Thousand !!!
